Hello Friends, 25 March 08--Feast of the Annunciation
This past weekend, we were blessed by a visit from our beloved Sayidna JOSEPH, Bishop of the Antiochian Orthodox Diocese of Los Angeles and the West. How fortunate we are in our diocese to have a shepherd who, by his love, wisdom, and Apostolic authority, shows us Jesus. Whenever I’m with Sayidna, I tangibly encounter the spiritual truth of Apostolic succession. I feel the powerful presence of Christ.
I understand that this experience must be attributed to the office, and not to the man. What’s more, I’m painfully aware that not all bishops are like Sayidna JOSEPH. Nonetheless, the bishops of the East have preserved the Ancient Church unchanged across the centuries.
Through their strengths, and in spite of their imperfections, the Spirit of Christ has kept His Church alive through their ministry. Just like all things within the Church, the hierarchy is a testimony to the unrelenting faithfulness of God. He is able to keep what must be kept, to stop what must be stopped, and to lovingly heal what must be healed--and He does it through weak human vessels. So let us offer our prayers, our love, and our obedience to those whom Christ has commissioned to lead us.
In Christ’s love,
Matthew

2008
In his new book, One: What it Means to Be A Christian, Matthew examines contemporary
Christianity in the light of God’s ultimate purpose: to make us one with each other,
and one with Him, in the same way that the divine persons of the Trinity are one
(John 17:21-23).

Thanks For Your Patience!
This full time ministry has gotten very busy a lot faster than we anticipated! Up to this point, Matthew has been doing pretty much everything: traveling; speaking; writing; podcasting; answering e-mails; building the web sites; editing, duplicating, and mailing CDs of his talks; maintaining the database...ad infinitum.
But some good folks are coming on board to help with some of these projects. By summer, the Pilgrim Road /Pilgrim’s from Paradise site (www.pilgrimsfromparadise.com) should be up and running. We’ll have a full-service site where you can order Matthew’s books, podcast transcripts, and CDs.
Pilgrims From Paradise Podcasts
Personal stories, doctrine and apologetics, in-depth Bible studies, responses to listener questions--Matthew’s weekly podcasts touch on every aspect of the Orthodox Christian life. Tune in by clicking the Ancient Faith Radio logo.
CDs of Postcasts and Talks Plus Podcast Transcripts Available SOON!
(So, like...When?)
Our move to Bonners Ferry (or simply “Bonners,” as the locals call it) is on hold for the moment. Life is not always as simple as we’d like it to be! Our sights are still set there. We are actively involved in the work of the mission, and the mission is actively involved in our ministry. But we have some other responsibilities of love that need to be worked out before we can relocate. So we ask your prayers for wisdom, guidance, and patience. Yes,we know what they say about praying for patience! But please, go ahead.
