Speaking Engagements
This work of writing, speaking, and teaching is now my life and livelihood. My great desire is to be available anytime and anywhere the Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Church can use me. If a priest, parish, school, or organization prayerfully determines that having me come to speak would be of spiritual value to their community, I want to be there. My heart lies especially with mission parishes and missionary efforts that typically can use help the most, but which have the fewest resources.
So when I am invited to speak,
(1) I do not charge a set fee. I know that some parishes and organizations can afford to be very generous, while others cannot. All I ask is that in determining an honorarium, the inviting party prayerfully considers that this work is my sole livelihood, and that “the laborer is worthy of his wages” (1 Timothy 5:18). If those who invite me do that sincerely, then I know that the honoraria I receive will be blessed by God and will sustain me and my family.
(2) I do ask that my travel and accommodation expenses be covered. I drive to speaking engagements when it is more economical than flying. When I must fly, I happily travel on the cheapest airlines, in the cheapest seats. When it comes to accommodations, I don’t need fancy hotels. In fact, I am quite willing to stay in people’s homes, if that is helpful.
(3) I reserve the recording rights to my talks.
(4) I request that I be permitted to sell my books and CDs after my presentations.
